The Shamanic Detective Book Blast #PromoBookTours

The Shamanic Detective 1

The Shamanic Detective 2
The Shamanic Detective

When Riga Hayworth’s lover is arrested, she’s determined to unearth the truth, no matter the cost. But life – and death – gets in the way.

All Riga wants is to clear the name of her almost-fiancĂ©e, Donovan Mosse. But a death faerie has other plans for her, and Riga is forced to protect a shaman with a house full of murderous relatives. The only way to stop this killer is to figure out who he, or she, is before the next strike. As the two cases become entangled, Riga must choose between facts and faith, and decide just how far she’s willing to go for love.

The Shamanic Detective is a paranormal mystery set in Lake Tahoe, and explores shamanism, the shadow, and the world of the fae.

Her experiences abroad not only gave her glimpses into the darker side of human nature, but also sparked an interest in the effects of mysticism and mythology, and how both are woven into our daily lives.

Now based in San Mateo, CA, she writes the Riga Hayworth series of paranormal mysteries, blending her experiences and imagination to create a vivid world of magic and mayhem.

Moonshadows 11

Moonshadows Picture 2
Title: Moonshadows
Series:
Author: Claude Dancourt
Publisher:
Desription: When Mira was turned into a werecat, she panicked. She ran away from her life and her boyfriend without a goodbye.

One year later, she’s on the verge of emotional and physical collapse, and answers are nowhere to be found. When the man she left behind shows up unexpectedly, Mira is so desperate to feel human again that she welcomes him back into her life despite her best resolves.

Erik has some questions of his own, and he won’t take no for an answer. He doesn’t believe in Supernatural, or in ancestral creatures. He wants a real explanation for her abandon. But when the new moon reveals the black panther inside Mira, he has no choice but to face the truth.

While the pair struggle to work out their issues, a killer lurks in the shadows. And its restraint is thinning…

Review: Have you read much about werecats? I love them and have read a few books about them. This one is all about a woman who is turned into a were-panther against her will (possibly even by accident). She has no idea what is happening to her so the first time she shifts into her cat form and kills a rat, she freaks out. She runs away from everyone she knows and loves in order to seek out information about what has happened to her. I think deep down she is actually searching for a cure. She denies her second self to the point of making herself physically ill. She is close to death when Erik, Mira's boyfriend at the time of turning, finds her hiding in Florida. Erik has been searching for her for no other reason than to get an explanation of why she left. I think he also just has to see her with his own eyes to truly believe that she is alive. What he doesn't expect to find is his beloved deathly sick, working in a bar, and never leaving the house during daylight. Mira's life has been completely turned upside down to a point where Erik struggles to recognize her.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was interesting to read about how Claude Dancourt interpreted how a werecat would act as a human and in werecat form. I would have liked more actual werecat scenes, but the way I read it is that Mira "lost herself" every time she turned. In other words, she never remembers what happened once her cat took over. Great story though.

Interview with the author, Claude Dancourt:
  1. Why did you decide to write about werecats?

I was fed up with vampires and werewolves. It seemed fun to have the heroine changing into something else (and something cute). I like cats, and panthers are just big cats :)

  2. Are all the terms you used in the story based on actual Indian legends? Where did you get your mythology?

The basic legend : the creation of the world Panther and Wind bickering are actual Seminole Legend. However, the idea of moon being Panther's egg, the Kittahi, and Nethletulke/Nethlehasselawe are mine. It made sense to have someone watching the werecats, and having "twisted" once worked with the plotline.

  3. How did Mira figure out that she was a werecat when she doesn’t remember what happens after she turns?

Well, if I was to wake up naked in a garden covered in blood, stinking of raw meat on me with fur under my nails, and bumped into a rat, I would figure out something not right quickly enough. Mira does remember something, mostly as images and feelings rather than real memories. She also remembers that the bus driver said he had seen a panther attacking her. She's ill, panicking, and she just put two and two together.

  4. What was Erik’s reaction to seeing Mira as a panther?

I leave that one to the reader imagination.

  5. Mira was referred to as a skin walker a few times. What made her a skin walker and not a kittahi?

A skinwalker is someone who is able to change into an animal (Navarro legend). In the book, a kittahi is someone who watches the Nethletulki, and kills the Nethlehasselawi. One is the hunted, the other the hunter. Kittahi are humans with training. Skinwalkers is another name for Werecats.

  6. Will there be a sequel? What are you currently working on?

I don't think I'll write a sequel. But in the Right Place Universe, some characters appear in more than one novel. For an example, Erik is Gavin's (the nurse from SECOND CHANCES) brother. Adam Fielding (the FBI agent) will appear in my current WIP (SMOKE AND SHADOWS). Mira and Erik will probably do a cameo in another novel (just brainstorming for now). My current WIP is a romantic suspense : a pyroman is on the loose, and Adam will try to catch him, while dealing with his high-school-college sweetheart, and his sister's crazy schemes.

The Arimathean 1

The Arimathean 2
The Arimathean

Alex Donovan survived battle against insurgents in Afghanistan, and again in Zurich against a fallen angel. Now he must fight for his soul, drawn into a war that has waged across the centuries between angels and demons for control of a legendary relic more valuable than the Shroud of Turin.

Gaspar de Rouse, a mere man with the gift – or curse – of immortality, is the latest in a long line of devoted guardians who have protected the secret for two thousand years. He received his sacred duty centuries earlier, passed down through generations of Knights Templar, to serve as The Arimathean.

Gaspar enlists a reluctant Alex into the conflict when Alex inherits his grandfather’s estate, which includes the historical records of the legend and ownership of an abandoned medieval church.

From ancient Jerusalem to the mountains of France, from the coast of Maine to the canals of Venice, the clues unfold, the mystery deepens, the final showdown looms as good and evil clash yet again over a relic so powerful, if it even exists, its exposure would rip apart the modern world.

Three Lost Kids and the Death of the Sugar Fairy Picture 1

Three Lost Kids and the Death of the Sugar Fairy Picture 2
Title: Three Lost Kids and the Death of the Sugar Fairy
Series: Three Lost Kids Series, Book 4
Author: Kimberly Kinrade
Publisher: Evolved Publishing
Description: Halloween is here and Lexie, Bella and Maddie couldn't be happier. But why does everything feel so different? Fewer houses are decorated and fewer kids are out trick-or-treating. Still, that's not going to stop the three girls from eating as much candy as they can before their parents can stop them, even if that means fighting each other for it.

When they finally discover a haunted house worthy of their favorite holiday, they forget their parents' warnings and go in alone, only to discover that the house really is haunted, and not only that, but they've been transported to a whole different world!

A dying Sugar Fairy in one of the abandoned rooms send them on a quest to find her Sugar Baby and the magic Sugar Flower in order to save her and Halloween. If they fail, Halloween will be gone forever, and they'll never return to their family.

But with Sugar Bug attacks, the Cavity Caves where they must face their deepest fears, and giant gummy bears armed with candy cane swords, the girls aren't sure they'll make it.

Their only chance is to work together, using each of their strengths to help each other. Can they stop fighting over candy long enough? Or will they be trapped in the dying Sugar Land forever?

Review: This is a wonderful continuation of the Three Lost Kids series. Maddie is turning ten on Halloween and she and her sisters, Bella and Lexi, are going trick-or-treating. They get all dressed up only to discover that most of the houses just aren't participating. There aren't any other kids out. The homes are dark. That is they are all dark until them come across one that is completely decked out for the season. The three girls get so excited that they run to the house, abandoning their parents. They knock on the door and it opens. What to do? Well being 10, 8, and 6, they decide to go inside the "haunted house." At this point, the kids enter a new world where they are given the task to save the Sugar Fairy who is on her death bed lest Halloween will be forgotten forever. Of course they accept the mission.

This story is designed to help kids to understand a few things like working together an not to argue with your siblings so much. It teaches a little about the effects of eating too much sugar and a healthy alternative. It's a cute story and fast read.

About the Author, Claude Dancourt:
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a writer. Then I switched to Egyptologist. And then veterinarian. This one stuck for a while. After several long (and sometimes loud) discussions with my parents, I decided being an engineer was not that bad. And then one day I woke up, and I realized that I still loved words as much as maths and physics. So I found my ink pen at the bottom of a drawer, I bought a couple of lined paper notebooks, and I started writing again.

I was lucky enough to interest a publisher into my first complete novel "Second Chances" in July 2011, and suddenly, that was it, I was a published writer. Ever since, I am struggling between applied science by day, words and restless muses by night, training sessions at the gym and trips to the my favourite bookstore. I also try not to kill my plants.

As for the chocolate orgy last weekend, I swear, the cat made me do it.

Sunday Scribbles: Precious Bones Guest Post #LightningBookPromos

Precious Bones 1
Guest Post by Irina Shapiro:
What would you do if suddenly confronted with something that undermines everything you believe about yourself and the world around you? Would you simply write it off or pursue it to the bitter end? A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing, since it can change how we see ourselves and the people around us. Is it wiser to just ignore that little voice that tries to tell you that you’ve been here before or that the person you’ve never met seems strangely familiar? Probing those issues can lead you down a path you’ve never expected and change your life forever.

My books fall under the category of historical romance, but strictly speaking, they are much more than that. I like to mix one part historical romance, one part mystery, and one part paranormal for a recipe that keeps the reader guessing until the very last page where all this is going. If I manage to get it right, they are hooked from the first page with the story taking them on an unexpected journey that culminates in a surprise ending.

Maddie World Review #IOTours

In celebration of the Three Lost Kids and the Death of the Sugar Fairy, I have been given the opportunity to review the book Maddie World which is from this series. Enjoy!

Maddie World
Title: Maddie World
Series: Three Lost Kids Series, Book 3
Author: Kimberly Kinrade
Publisher: Evolved Publishing
Description: Too scared to stand up to the bullies or tell her teachers, 9-year-old Maddie decides she's never going to school again. Too bad her parents don't agree. Depressed and feeling hopeless, she doesn't expect to discover the secret door to her magical world in an old box in her bedroom. Only Maddie World isn't the beautiful paradise she's always imagined. When Maddie, her two sisters and her dog TayTay are thrown into the middle of a Fairy War, Maddie has to learn to stand up for herself and face her fears, or her sisters will be stuck in a Fairy dungeon forever! Will Maddie find the courage to do what she must, without becoming a bully herself? Find out with the this third book in the The Three Lost Kids Special Edition Trilogy. ~~~ With full color illustrations by Josh Evans, Maddie World bridges the gap between picture books and chapter books, offering children 4-9 years old a new, exciting reading journey. Look for the rest of the Three Lost Kids Trilogy—Lexie World and Bella World—if you like enchanted Unicorns, Fairies, and more adventures through magical worlds with great life lessons for kids!

Review: Maddie World is book three in the Three Lost Kids series. I have not had the privilege of reading the first two books, but you don't have to read them in order to understand what is happening. These books are all geared for early adolescents and each have some concept that might help make our children to grow into healthier, happier adults. This particular story is focused on Bullying. Maddie is bullied by a girl at school in the beginning and refuses to stand up for herself. No matter what her family tells her, she is determined not to go back to school to face her fears. In an effort to cheer her up, her two sisters take a cardboard box and turn it into "Maddie World." What they didn't realize was that as soon as they crawled into the box, it really transported them into Maddie World. Upon entering the new world, they are transformed into other people. For instance, Maddie becomes a fairy. Since the world is for Maddie, they are dropped into the middle of a Fairy War that will require bravery and self confidence to end. This is Maddie's task. She must end the war in order for them to return to their own world and to save Maddie World from destruction. Since it is a short story, I will not give away how Maddie saves the world, but she learns how to stand up for herself in the process. When she returns home, she is mentally equipped to handle being bullied at school. One of the things I really like about the story is that the end of the book comes with questions that you can use to help start a discussion about bullying and what to do to stop it. It's a cute story that will hopefully help the battle against bullying.

Friday (Non)Fiction: The Vampire Hunters review #IOTours

The Vampire Hunters 1

The Vampire Hunters 2
Title: The Vampire Hunters
Series: The Vampire Hunters, Book 1
Author: Scott M Baker
Publisher: Pill Hill Press
Desription: Modern day vampire hunters wage a brutal battle against the undead in the nation's capital. As former Boston cops, Drake Matthews and Alison Monroe thought they had experienced it all... until they found themselves tracking down a serial killer who turned out to be one of the undead. Stopping him cost them their careers and almost their lives. Thanks to an influential and anonymous benefactor, Drake and Alison find a new job ridding the streets of Washington D.C. of the vampiric threat terrorizing the nation's capital. Only this time, Drake and Alison are not facing a single vampire but an entire nest led by Ion Zielenska, one of history's most evil and twisted masters. As the vampires indiscriminately prey on humans, seeing them as nothing more than food to satiate their hunger, they create a wave of violence that threatens to engulf the city. Orchestrating the carnage is Antoinette Varela, the mistress of the nest, whose vendetta against the hunters is personal.

Review: I have read a lot of vampire and werewolf books, but most of them fall into the romance category. The Vampire Hunters is not a romance, though there is a hint of romance buried in it. This story is based on the older non-romanticized vampires, i.e. it is a horror story. I normally do not like horror stories at all. This one intrigued me, and I have to say that I am happy to have read it. It was very well written and very entertaining without giving me nightmares. I notoriously have nightmares from anything (music, movies, books) from the horror genre.

The story is about two vampire hunters that were once Boston Police. After a high profile case that they discovered to be about a vampire and not a serial killer, they were forced to leave the force. However, their ability to handle/kill vampires drew the attention of some unknown and very powerful person. They were hired by the unknown person to go to Washington D.C. to wipe out a coven of vampires. Drake and Alison are slowly taking out vampires but no closer to finding the master until a reporter by the name of Jessica starts looking into Drake's background. Her investigation somehow spurs the vampire master to set up a trap to try to kill the hunters. Will this trap succeed? Will Jessica die in the process? Will Drake be forced to kill vampires for the remainder of his life? Why does a vampire hunter have a pet rabbit? All of these questions and more will be answered when you read this story.
