Review: This is very interesting story. The author obviously felt like she had a lot to say because it was near 300 pages. I will say that I had trouble getting through it all. The plot idea was very interesting. Sydney is in a very bad place in her life having recently lost her dad and her mom being admitted into a psych ward after a suicide attempt. Sydney is taking everything one day at a time until her best friend Christine convinces her that she needs to get out for some adventure. It turns out that they used to a lot of adventuring before the accident, so Christine is just trying to help Sydney get back to being her normal self. This vacation is the start of Sydney discovering that she is very special. She is a Nephilim. Her powers have been being hidden and denied to her from some pills she's been taking, but the Fallen angels are now after her for those powers. She must learn to use everything that makes her who she is, avoid the other supernatural creatures that are out to get her, and find the truth behind who she really is. I really liked the plot. I just honestly felt like these 300 pages were more like an outline of a story than the actual story. More often than not it felt like Sydney was telling me a summary of what happened without any major details being explained. I was confused often enough with the dialog that I know the summary of the situation was not really giving me the whole picture. Aside from that, I don't think this story was edited at all. There were incorrect words used periodically. You can easily figure out what the author intended to say, but the incorrect words tells me that if she did have an editor, that person probably shouldn't be used again. The other grammatical thing that absolutely drove me insane was the incorrect use of quotation marks. Many times the dialog started with quotation marks and would have ending quotation marks somewhere in the middle of the dialog. When you read it, you will think that the dialog has ended but the character keeps talking. Normally I would interpret that to indicate that the dialog was continued as a thought, but it became obvious that that was not the case the more I read. Honestly, I was disappointed because I really liked the idea behind it. I am giving this three out of five roses (my new rating system), but really I am being generous.
