#BookReview: Cameron's Law by Mia Darien

Cameron's Law

Title: Cameron's Law
Series: The Adelheid Series, Book 1
Author: Mia Darien
Publisher: Mia Darien
Description: Vampires are people too...

That's what Sadie Stanton has been trying to get people to understand, and what the business she's setting up in the paranormal hotspot of Adelheid, Connecticut, is aiming to do. Cameron's Law has made all supernatural creatures legal citizens, and the boy next door has suddenly become the werewolf next door.

Not everyone likes that.

Now vampires have started attacking werewolves without provocation, and as if her fledgling business and preternatural rights poster girl status isn't keeping her busy enough, people are looking to Sadie to help keep these events from giving their enemies the ammunition to repeal the law and push them back in the shadows.

But her notoriety comes with an even higher cost. Can she find a way to keep the city's two biggest paranormal populations from descending into chaos and war, while her very help shoves her into the crossfire?

Review: Sadie is a famous vampire. She isn't happy about that, but it was the result of losing someone she loved as well as trying to pave the way for all supernatural beings to be accepted in the mortal world. A year ago she was forced into the spotlight as a person involved in the legislature creating Cameron's Law, a law that allowed some protection to the supernatural beings. No more creating false identities to compensate for living more than a century. No more hiding in the shadows. They could all come out in the open and act like normal human beings. The only problem is that vampires seem to be going crazy and randomly attacking werewolves with no intention of feeding. They are truly random attacks and somehow Sadie is getting put in the spotlight again for this. On top of that, the cop on the case is provoking feelings that she hasn't felt in over a year.

I really enjoyed this book. I have been selecting anything with a pretty cover that looks like Urban Fantasy or Paranormal Romance to read right now since those are the genres I love and haven't been signing up for book tours (for fear of not finishing by my due dates). This book gave me hope that maybe I am ready to start signing up for tours again since I read it in about three days. The story was a little slow getting started in terms of where it was heading. It feels like the story is going in one direction at first and then it takes a turn that, while obvious, seemed unexpected to me. I loved the character development. The romantic element was subtle and exciting even though there really isn't a lot of action in that department. I would recommend it to a YA audience that enjoy these genres. It was very well written and highly enjoyable.

#BookReview: Despite the Fangs by Dylan Newton

Despite the Fangs

Title: Despite the Fangs
Author: Dylan Newton
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press, Inc; Black Rose 1st edition
Description: Workaholic werewolves have such awesome perks.

Just ask Aribella Lupari, whose hectic schedule tracking missing people in the snowy Adirondacks allows her benefits humans can't appreciate--wolves never return unopened wedding gifts, never gain weight from late night doughnut binges, and never worry over their encroaching Unibrow. For Ari, walking upright is overrated.

Then she tracks a hiker whose delectable scent calls to both halves of her werewolf self. Not only does Mason Gray look as good as he smells, he may be the only man who can love the beauty behind the beast. Ari should know better than to trust a human, especially after Mason blackmails her into tracking his kidnapped son. But her attraction for the mysterious single father has Ari ignoring her animal instincts.

Can the big, bad wolf live happily ever after, DESPITE THE FANGS?

Review: It took me a long time to read this book just because my infant daughter stopped sleeping after I started it, but I slowly worked my way through it because I really wanted to read it. Despite the Fangs is about Aribella's (normally just called Ari) business in retrieval. She finds things and people using her "dog" Tracker. In reality, she is Tracker there werewolf. She takes on clients and then goes out into the mountains as her wolf self in order to utilize her extraordinary senses to find what has been lost. Her goal is create a business that the world would accept where werewolves can make a living doing something that benefits everyone. No more sneaking around and making money through less than desirable means. Everything appears right on track until Mason Gray hires her. She was enthralled with him before she realizes that he will be her next client, but ends up falling head over heels while working on his case. What was his case? To find his missing son. How will Ari manage her nearly uncontrollable desire for Mason and find his son? What will she do when she discovers what Mason really is and who he has been forced to work with?

I loved the character development. Ari has a past that deeply affects her personality, but her wolf instincts tend to be stronger than what her heart wants. You cannot deny your true nature and in werewolf it's hard to figure out which half is your true nature. Mason is very mysterious and in many ways appears to be the bad guy. Dylan is able to through several curve balls at you through out the story making it more interesting and leaving you wanting more. The book is not part of a series, but her writing style will leave you wanting to read more of her work.

#ProductReview: Tablet Cover by Geekify Inc.

I am a geek, the model building, dice slinging, character painting, board gaming, and noncollectable card game type. I freely admit it and am rather proud of it. I may not be in the know about everything having to do with a geek topic, but I know enough to hold a decent conversation. In the world of geeks, we love our gadgets. We have two smart phones, a kindle fire HD, a tablet, and too many game systems to count or list. We also love to watch tv shows that are based on books and games that we have read/played. Well, there's a company out there that combines both of these! You can get a table cover that is tied to your favorite games and tv series. Geekify makes tablet covers, pendants, and other random geek objects. I found them when I was looking for a tablet cover for my husband's tablet. They were the only place that I could find a dragon cover that I was interested in, but they had several that were up for consideration.

After talking to them about the type of tablet my husband has, we decided to get a Game of Thrones inspired cover. We picked out the House of Stark cover which has the House of Stark family crest. Here are pictures of the actual cover.

House of Stark Tablet Cover 1
House of Stark Tablet Cover 2
House of Stark Tablet Cover 3
House of Stark Tablet Cover 4

The cover is very well made. I was afraid at first that the crest wouldn't stay on because it looked like it was just glued on, but we have had it for over two months now and it is holding up fine. You can see that the tablet fits, but I will tell you that it was a tight squeeze to get it in at first. I show you how the tablet looks from the top to demonstrate that you can still easily plug it in to charge. It is kind of hard to get the stylus out though. My husband tends to take the tablet out if he needs to use the stylus. What we both really like is that the cover lays completely flt when it is closed meaning that the "binding" side was made just the right way.

Other than not being able to use the stylus easily, the only other complaint my husband has had about the cover is that his tablet is magnetized. We sent the product link to them when we asked for the cover to be made, so it should have mentioned in the product description that the back of the tablet was magnetized. It's not really a complaint, but he thought that the tablet cover would have a magnet in the back to help hold the tablet in without having to have the straps at the top. If it had been made with the magnets, the stylus wouldn't have been so hard to get out around the straps at the top. This is rather a nitpicky thing because it means that the cover would have to have been made to the exact specs of his specific tablet. However, this might be something for them to consider in the future because more tablets might be made with magnets in the future.

Myst Tablet Cover

It's a great cover and I would definitely recommend them if you are looking for something a little more unique than the standard tablet covers that most people make. They have one that looks like The Neverending Story, The Labyrinth, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Myst, and many more. You can check out all their products at http://geekifyinc.com/shop/. #BookReview: Chasing Sam by Krystal Shannan

Chasing Sam

Title: Chasing Sam
Series: Vegas Mates Series, Novella 1
Author: Krystal Shannan
Publisher: Krystal Shannan
Description: Samantha Demakis wants to finish her degree, not settle down and play house with a mate. But her birthright demands otherwise. In fact, even her wolf is rebelling against her plans. When a chance encounter reveals the man who makes her wolf howl, will she run or fight?

Seasoned Army vet Chase Michaels has been alone for seventy-five years. Somewhat resigned to never finding his true mate, he is shocked when his wolf reacts so strongly to a woman he runs into in the airport. Unprepared for the politics and snobbery of the noble families, Chase finds himself fighting in a different type of war--a war for the heart of a woman he knows should be his.

A lot of things are chasing Sam, but will the right man catch her in the end? Or will a barbaric tradition ruin her only chance at happiness?

Vegas Mates in series order...

Review: Chasing Sam is about a girl, Samantha, who has returned home for Christmas break from college. She is a wolf and nobility among other wolves. As part of the nobility, she is required to go through the Mate Hunt when she turns 25. She has done the best she could not to home this year because her 25th birthday has come and gone. She knows what is expected of her, but intends to avoid the rite for as long as possible. The mate hunt is all about the eligible noble males hunting her down in the woods to lay their claim on her as their mate. Once they catch her, they mark and are married. There's no love involved and the wolves inside of the two aren't connected as wolves normally are. Over time, their wolves will learn to accept one another in order to survive, but this is not the life that Sam wants. She especially doesn't want it after running into another wolf in the airport. This new wolf excites the wolf inside of her and she knows without a doubt that she has actually met her soul mate. He is not nobility, but learns how to enter the mate hunt anyway in order to win Sam away from her loveless fate.

It's a really quick read. These are the types of stories I am on the hunt for right now since I don't get a lot of time to read these days. It got into the action quickly and as long as you don't want the romance to be built up, it is quite enjoyable. The author gives you all the elements you need to understand the story, but I do wish there was a little more about Sam's past. I think that might come in other books since the second novella is about Sam's mom. I liked the character development for each of the characters enough that when I have a chance, I will probably buy the rest of the series.
