#BookReview: Despite the Fangs by Dylan Newton

Despite the Fangs

Title: Despite the Fangs
Author: Dylan Newton
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press, Inc; Black Rose 1st edition
Description: Workaholic werewolves have such awesome perks.

Just ask Aribella Lupari, whose hectic schedule tracking missing people in the snowy Adirondacks allows her benefits humans can't appreciate--wolves never return unopened wedding gifts, never gain weight from late night doughnut binges, and never worry over their encroaching Unibrow. For Ari, walking upright is overrated.

Then she tracks a hiker whose delectable scent calls to both halves of her werewolf self. Not only does Mason Gray look as good as he smells, he may be the only man who can love the beauty behind the beast. Ari should know better than to trust a human, especially after Mason blackmails her into tracking his kidnapped son. But her attraction for the mysterious single father has Ari ignoring her animal instincts.

Can the big, bad wolf live happily ever after, DESPITE THE FANGS?

Review: It took me a long time to read this book just because my infant daughter stopped sleeping after I started it, but I slowly worked my way through it because I really wanted to read it. Despite the Fangs is about Aribella's (normally just called Ari) business in retrieval. She finds things and people using her "dog" Tracker. In reality, she is Tracker there werewolf. She takes on clients and then goes out into the mountains as her wolf self in order to utilize her extraordinary senses to find what has been lost. Her goal is create a business that the world would accept where werewolves can make a living doing something that benefits everyone. No more sneaking around and making money through less than desirable means. Everything appears right on track until Mason Gray hires her. She was enthralled with him before she realizes that he will be her next client, but ends up falling head over heels while working on his case. What was his case? To find his missing son. How will Ari manage her nearly uncontrollable desire for Mason and find his son? What will she do when she discovers what Mason really is and who he has been forced to work with?

I loved the character development. Ari has a past that deeply affects her personality, but her wolf instincts tend to be stronger than what her heart wants. You cannot deny your true nature and in werewolf it's hard to figure out which half is your true nature. Mason is very mysterious and in many ways appears to be the bad guy. Dylan is able to through several curve balls at you through out the story making it more interesting and leaving you wanting more. The book is not part of a series, but her writing style will leave you wanting to read more of her work.

About the author, Dylan Newton:
Dylan Newton

Dylan Newton was born and raised in a small town in Upstate New York where the local library was her favorite hang-out. Despite earning a degree in English Literature, Dylan spent more than a decade sidetracked by an executive position in corporate America where she swears she contracted testosterone poisoning. After leaving, she dedicated herself to more estrogen-rich passions, like motherhood, writing romance novels and her never-ending quest for the perfect date night.

Dylan married her high-school sweetheart and they are busy living out their own happily ever after in sunny Florida with their two incredible daughters and a snoring Shih-Tzu.
