#BookReview: Bound to You by Lola James #PromoBookTours

Bound to You 2
Title: Bound to You
Series: Spellbound Series, Book 3
Author: Lola James
Publisher: LJ Publishing, Inc
Description: Toni’s life is just one complication after another. First, her past comes back to her, then she has to deal with a psycho, and now it’s the biggest of them all. A choice that could destroy one life and be the bright future to the other.

How is a girl supposed to choose between two men that she loves?

On one hand, she has the Greek god Hades, the love from her past and the other, Ben the hot Vampire nurse that she met just over a week ago. Both have captured her heart in their own individual ways but whose love is the greatest?

Who does she ultimately love the most?

In the end, a decision is made in Bound to you...

**This Book Includes Sexual Content**

Review: The third, and I believe, final book in the Spellbound Series will leave you constantly guessing what is going to happen. At the end of the second book, Toni has been turned into a vampire after having Persephone, the wife of the Greek God Hades, try to kill her. Toni was just lucky enough to have had some of Ben's vampire blood in her system at the time of her death which technically saved her life. Perhaps we should really say that the blood has given her a new immortal life. After waking up from her death sleep, she finds herself in the arms of Hades and subsequently with Ben. She is in love with both of these men, but can only be with one of them. She is put in the awkward situation of having to pick between the man she had been spelled to never meet, but had loved for centuries, and the man who made her feel safe and whole in the life she was currently living. This entire story is about Toni trying to make up her mind which man she really wants to be with. Hades lets her run off to the life she is comfortable in while Ben tries to wine and dine her in the so-called life. Who will she choose? To what lengths are Ben and Hades willing to go in order to obtain Toni's love? Will Persephone try to kill Toni once again for being her husband's mistress and preventing her ultimate seat in Olympus? These are the questions you will be constantly asking yourself in this final installment of the Spellbound Series. I will say that I was super surprised with the ending. Parts of Toni's human life come back to haunt her while she is in the process of making her decision.

Monday Motif: Interview with Fate's Design author Lola James #FMBTours

Fate's Design 1

Welcome to the Fate's Design tour with Full Moon Bites. I read this book a while ago for another tour group and wrote a review HERE. My review included an interview that is very much about the story itself, so when this tour came up, I decided to ask Lola James some questions that surround her future works (in case you are confused by my interview below). I hope you enjoy it and are intrigued enough to check out all of Lola's works (Unbound, Bound to Remember, Once Upon a Midnight Dreary [collection of short stories by several authors I love], A VILLAIN'S FATE, A Fate Series Short).

Interview with Fate's Design author Lola James:
  1. Where do you see your Fate series going?

Well without giving much away, some of Megan’s dreams come true and she begins to question those around her.

  2. You recently held a giveaway for a lucky reader to name a character in your next book. What was your motivation behind this giveaway?

Well I wanted to get my readers involved and have a fun contest while doing it. That contest was for another series, Spellbound.
  3. Has the winner decided which God/Goddess will be featured in your next story?

She is going to me a new character and she is going to have ties to my favorite character in that book, Dawn. I can’t say more without giving the story away.

  4. Will the chosen God/Goddess actually be based off of the myths or are you basing the character off of the ideas of the winner?

It’s going to be based of something else. But the next book you will see almost all of the gods and goddess show up at some point.

  5. What other books do you envision in the future? Will you run similar giveaways for those?

I will have another contest like that for the third book of the Fate series.

Tuesday Talk: Immortal Voyage Review & Interview

Immortal Voyage Picture 1
Immortal Voyage Picture 2 Title: Immortal Voyage
Series: A Terra Stellar
Author: C. G. Powell
Desription: Before the time of the great pyramids, there was a place like none other, a city of glass and metal rising from the depths of the ocean. Shrouded in mist, the island of Hy-Brasil and its capital Atlantis lay hidden from the rest of the world by its people, a race of long lived, interstellar nomads.

What secrets would you keep to save your kingdom? On the Queen’s deathbed, the sonless King Aldric is force into a promise to allow his five daughters to marry for love. A promise he wished he had never made, and one he will have to break, to save the kingdom from his squabbling, incompetent son-in-laws.

The youngest of five daughters, Jael, spent most of her time at her father’s side learning to run a kingdom. Believed to be the King’s favorite, Jael is shocked when he betroths her to a longtime friend of his, Prince Sarik of Hy-Brasil. Soon she will learn that world is full of secrets and one of them is her very own birth. Will the secret that bonds her to Sarik be the ultimate downfall of a kingdom?

Review: C.G. Powell has taken a very interesting perspective in the city of Atlantis in this story about how aliens and humans can co-exist. The truth about Atlantis is a secret though, so shhhhh! This story is primarily about a family who rules a portion of the world called Eir. The queen dies during childbirth of their fifth baby girl, but leaves behind no sons. As her last dying wish, she makes the King promise to let their daughters marry for love. It's a pretty big deal since now the king has to rely on a daughter to marry a man who is capable of running the kingdom without getting to groom him for the position. It is entirely possible each daughter would marry someone completely incapable of being the next king, but he swears to her as she dies that they will marry for love.

Seventeen years later, the king has married off two daughters and one has married a man that could rule, but no one wants him in a position of power. The other appears to be a complete idiot whom no knows much about at all. King Rowe is on a mission to marry off the other three as he is getting older in age. During this time he has had the chance to groom one man to take over in hopes that one of his daughters would indeed fall in love with him. It's a gamble that you will definitely enjoy reading about. His other chance of leaving the kingdom with an heir is to break his dying wife's wish and betroth Jael, the youngest. You will learn that Jael is different from her sisters and Rowe has a very good reason for the betrothal other than finding an heir. It's a mystery that has surrounded Jael since her birth and will leave you shocked at the end. Rest assured that the story has a happy ending and leaves an opening for a second book. I thoroughly enjoyed this and even though I typically avoid aliens, this is well worth the read. Especially since it is C.G. Powell, an author I thoroughly enjoy.

Interview with the author, C.G. Powell:
  1. What made you decide to write about Atlantis and aliens?

I’ve always been fascinated with Sci-fi and Fantasy. Rather than magic without explanation, I felt the need to write a logical reason for gods and magic. I also love the lure of Atlantis. There is something about it that makes me want to write more about its people (aliens).
  2. What made Jael's mom decide to have Rowe let their girls marry for love when she knew the clan had no heir?

During the time period marriages were made for power, not love. Mila did not want to subject her daughters to a loveless marriage. She also believed she carried a son, it was one of the reasons she agreed to the insemination, although it was never mentioned in the book.
  3. Can you tell us a little more about Tam and his background? He's such a mystery even though he obviously has been apart of Rowe's family life for a long time.

Rowe and Tam’s father Kale were best friends. When Mila died, Kale’s wife Fe became segregate mother to Rowe’s daughters. Tam and Ugis grew up as brothers to the girls. In some ways Tam was the son Rowe never had, he was raised to rule until Jael became old enough to learn the ropes. Tam is so good natured, even though he was raised to rule he never felt it was owed to him.
  4. What made Jael actually fall in love with Sarik? It seemed like she fell suddenly and I wonder what was the specific trait or event that triggered it.

In the beginning she was put off by his arrogance, but once she got to know the real man behind the prince facade she couldn’t help but fall in love with him. I think being raised by a father in a powerful position and no mother, made Sarik very indifferent towards love. It wasn’t until Jael came along that he found his humility and his heart.
  5. What happened to Wren? The epilogue makes me think the next story will be taking place many years later and that Wren might be forgotten about. Where did she go? What did she do?

Honestly I don’t know...I haven’t given it much thought, but something in the back of my mind said don’t kill her yet. Maybe there will be more at a later date.
  6. What are you plans for the rest of this series? Will you be covering more varying mythology through out it?

Rather than a series, I have chosen to write standalone books in side of the realm of Terra Stellar. I have 5 books so far planned. I will go back in time to Salima’s past, you will find out more about Tam and the house of Tintagel, Tal and Fairen have their own love story, I also plan to write the story of Helen and Beck before Mae, plus how Io and Nilus met. All of them have a certain amount of mythology in them and some will take us to their home worlds, where dragons and mermaids are the norm...ever wonder where the stories came from?

Monday Motif: Interview with Belinda Boring (Forget Me Not author)

As you well know, I love to do author interviews when I write up book reviews. I am not always able to get the authors to respond, which is ok because we all hope they are just too busy working on their next masterpiece. Other times they respond, but truly they are just too busy. Since my questions tend to be thought provoking and dig into the meat of the story (or I try to at least), I am not bothered by them not being able to answer me. However, I love when I do finally get a response. In some situations it is better late than never. During the Forget Me Not book tour, Belinda Boring was preoccupied and I did not get my interview in time for my tour spot (which you can read here: She just recently was able to get my interview questions answered, and I am pleased to pass it on to you! First, let me remind you about the book that is the focus on my interview!

Forget Me Not Picture Title: Forget Me Not
Series: The Mystic Wolves, Book 2
Author: Belinda Boring
Publisher: Moonstruck Media
Desription: Only a fool would think they could steal from a werewolf …

Anticipating a quiet night alone with the man she loves, Darcy’s world is sent into a spin with the arrival of someone from the past—Mason’s. She is further shocked by the intruder’s claim she may not even be the true mate of the Mystic Wolves Alpha. Accusations start to fly, leading to her new enemy being granted asylum, and this is just the beginning of trouble.

Relying on the reassurances of Mason and the support of her friends and Pack, Darcy soon falls under attack. Suspicions are raised, and with no other choice, she must flee with Devlin to safety where hopefully they can untangle the lies hidden behind the use of magic. Time is quickly ticking away, leading to a showdown where everything is on the line.

They need to uncover the truth before it’s too late, or once again, Darcy will need to fight to hold onto her dreams.

Interview with Belinda Boring, author of Forget Me Not!

  1. Darcy and Mason have been waiting a long time for their mating ritual and we learned in this book that it is because of some prophecy. Can you tell us a little about the prophecy or will it be in book 3?

The prophecy is something that will be explained in greater detail in the fourth book. For the moment, all we know is that Vivien had a vision, something that occurred at Darcy’s birth that made it vital she remain pure until she married her future mate, Mason. She instilled the importance strong enough that Darcy never questioned it, believing and trusting in the lead witch’s words. It wasn’t until during this past year with Mason that her promise to remain a virgin has been tested. Everything will revealed though *winks* It’s one of those lovely twists and turns I love to include in each story.

  2. Will Amber have a big part of book 3?

Amber will definitely be in Testing Fate. She is fixated on making Mason hers and will stop at NOTHING to get rid of Darcy. A good portion of the book will be Darcy going through a series of tests (hence the name) given by the Fates so she can finally silence Amber once and for all. You’ll need to read the book to find out how that goes.

  3. How was it that Amber could perform magic, but didn't know that Mason's wolf could protect him?

Good question. Amber doesn’t hold the magic herself and instead relies on the magic of the witch she hires. She uses bought spells without a really good grasp on the intricacies that are involved. You need to understand, Amber has become obsessed in Mason, she’s wanted to be his mate for a long time, and now she is desperate. She has “tunnel vision” when it comes to accomplishing her goals and with that kind of focus, she doesn't take everything into account – like Mason’s wolf. All she sees is if she performs the spell, Mason will be hers. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve caught myself in the same mindset during my life. We become so intent on one thing we fail to look at all possible outcomes – even the simple ones.

  4. Will we ever learn more about Devlin's past? Will he get his own book/series?

Devlin is AH-MAZING and readers will definitely get to learn more about him. There are three more books in the Mystic Wolves series and Devlin features in all of them. He’ll be Darcy’s companion in Testing Fate and be forced to make a risky decision in Book #4. Everyone will learn more about his past, his relationship with Darcy, and how he became a vampire.

As for his own book or series? ABSOLUTELY!! I could write Devlin forever *swoony sigh* so as long as there’s a story to be told, readers can have all the sexy Enforcer they want. Certain things need to happen first though, but I already have a few ideas stirring in my mind.

  5. Tell us more about Daniel. Will he ever find his true mate?

Isn't Daniel hilarious? I love him so much and as a hopeless romantic, I won't rest until he gets his own happily ever after. She hasn’t revealed herself yet – who she is and her story – but I do have a name and a certainty she’ll be everything and more for Daniel. I think about how loyal he's been to Mason, always there to protect his best friend and Alpha. He's devoted to Darcy, proving there's nothing he won't do for her either. I always imagine him as the glue that keeps his friends together when everything is falling apart. He supports without question, defends without thought. There's a very special mate for him and he will fall head over heels for her.

  6. I love giving my readers a look at what's coming. Care to share something about book 3 or some of your other works?

Well, Testing Fate is the next book in the Mystic Wolves series and whenever I think of it, it feels HUGE. The story line has a lot of things happening in it – a roller coaster of emotions and action that will have you on the edge of your seat. Darcy has been whisked away by the Fates and will be given the chance to perform a series of tests to remove all doubt of her claim in being Mason's true mate. I don't want to give away too much, BUT you can expect plenty of twists and turns … and the ending? Even I gasped. I have the last sentence written and it’s a doozy! I can't wait to share this book with everyone.

I'm about to release a novella called Enchanted Hearts and it's part of the A Midsummer's Night Fling anthology with Lacey Weatherford and Kamery Solomon. It tells the story of Aithne, who has grown up daydreaming about the Fae. Through a chance encounter she meets Hadrian, a Fae prince, and falls under his enchantment. It's everything she ever imagined, but life gets complicated when a childhood friend, William, steps forward and reveals his love for her. Aithne's left with the choice – mere moments with a man straight from her fantasies, or a lifetime of moments with a man who can give her a future filled with love and laughter. I LOVE this story and had so much fun writing it … in fact here's a small teaser –

    Belinda Boring Picture 1
"Have you thought of me since yesterday?" Hadrian bent forward and placed a feathered kiss over my pulse. His mouth brushed over it, his breath warm, and it caused my skin to tingle. He reclined, and smiled as the blade of grass started its teasing again. "Judging from the way your heart is racing, yes." He caught my gaze, and his eyes seemed to smolder as he whispered. "Aithne, you have been the sole focus of mine . . . I am bewitched."

"But I don't have any magic," I uttered, my mind split between watching his lips move and the pleasure he was creating with his touch.

    "Oh, but you do."

And finally, I'm about to finish the first book in a new series called Broken Promises. I've been working on this story for over a year, but put it aside when I started the Mystic Wolves. Poor Bree and Quinn have been waiting patiently, and I can't wait to see what everyone thinks. It's an urban fantasy, and book #1 in the Brianna Lane series. Here's the blurb to tease you –

    Belinda Boring Picture 2
All Bree wanted to do was spend her Friday night with the man she loved and adored. Planning to watch a movie together, she never would've believed leaving her home would result in her relationship with Quinn being tested beyond its limits.

Unbeknownst to her, the Fae have been organizing to invade Earth, and their devious plans are culminating now, colliding with Bree's very existence. Using a powerful glamour, the Fae trigger each person's violent tendencies, turning the streets into a battleground and strangers against each other.

In a crushing blow, Quinn becomes affected and Bree finds herself battling to save her lover from himself as he stalks her relentlessly, taunting her at every turn. In a game of cat and mouse, Quinn can't decide whether he wants to seduce her or kill her, breaking her heart further with each encounter.

But fighting for her love isn't her only worry. As the battle ensues, Bree discovers a startling truth about her own heritage that she must come to terms with. Determined to bring balance back, she teams up with others to drive the Fae back across the veil, only to find herself in way over her head. Bree has no other choice but to fight, leading her to a confrontation that will change her world forever - and threaten to leave her with broken promises.

Interview with Author Emleigh Walsh

A Chance of Fate Picture 1
A Chance of Fate Picture 2
Title: A Chance of Fate
Series: Dominion Creek Pack
Author: Emleigh Walsh
Publisher: Emleigh Walsh
Desription: HE’S TERRIFIED
Chance McGregor is known as one of the toughest werewolves around. As the Dominion Creek Pack Guardian it’s his job to protect the pack and its laws. Even if that requires him to find his true mate or mate with someone of the council’s choosing. With the Mating Ceremony fast approaching – and Chance a very unwilling participant – he has more on his mind than pack safety. It’s enough to make even the baddest werewolf whine like a puppy.

Stephanie Taylor is finally making her way in the world. She’s out of a bad marriage, starting a business with her best friend in a great new town, and in control of her stable – if not sometimes boring – life. She can handle boring and she doesn’t need a man to tell her what’s best for her anymore.

When Chance runs into Stephanie on the street, he realizes that he found his woman. The problem is she’s a human. Not a problem for him though. Now all he has to do is convince her that they are meant to be together forever; talk the ever-meddling pack council into allowing the mating; and protect his pack from a group of rogue wolves wreaking havoc across the state. With their hearts, and lives, on the line Chance and Stephanie will do the only thing they can…

Interview with Emliegh Walsh

  1. In your world, Werewolves are known to the general public. Since they are known, has it become more common for werewolves to discover their true mates?

Being known to the public hasn’t made it any easier or harder for wolves to find their true mate. A wolves true mate can be any species: were; human; even Fey. It depends on Fate. However, it does make it easier for a human to accept the true nature of their were-mate if that’s the case.
  2. The council doesn't approve of mixing werewolf blood with other races/species because it dilutes the gene pool. Do they actually have evidence to support that fear? It just seems like it might be unfounded especially with the discovery of Chance's true mate being a human.

The council is comprised of elders of the pack. They’ve been alive for hundreds of years and most are very set in their ways. To them, the proof is in the pudding so to speak. They feel that rogue wolves, those that don’t want to live in a pack or have gone bad, are proof enough that the gene pools have been tainted. In their eyes, a wolf would never leave the pack or disobey the more dominant wolves of the pack if they were of pure blood lines. So there’s not any real proof; just the rigidity and absolute surety of the elder wolves that sit on the council that they know all.
  3. Since it is possible to turn humans into werewolves, why wouldn't each werewolf whose true mate is a human just turn their beloved in order to meet pack requirements?

Turning a human into a wolf is frowned upon by most of the packs. So in most cases it would be disobeying pack law. Also, turning a human into a wolf is very dangerous and painful to the human. They wouldn’t want to take a chance that their mate would die during the change.
  4. What is Eric's background? they hint to him having had a tough life before joining Chance's pack. Will there be a book about Eric in the future?

Eric’s book is coming up and all his secrets will come out soon!

I will say that I had other questions that could not be answered. It turns out I am really good at figuring out the foreshadowing in the story and if Emleigh had answered them, you might not have needed to read this book or the next one! Pretty cool for me, but you get a short interview as a result.

Tuesday Talk: Interview with Vanessa Morgan author of A Good Man

A Good Man Picture
Title: A Good Man
Author: Vanessa Morgan
Desription: Loved Dexter and American Psycho? Then you'll love A Good Man.

Louis Caron is a good man - vegetarian, he feeds the homeless, takes care of animals and is even concerned with the ecological future of the planet. But his altruism has a sinister edge - he's a vampire - and local detective Taglioni is becoming increasingly suspicious. Louis' attempt to escape the police takes him on a journey into his own private hell where he is not only forced to confront his worst fears, but also to destroy the lives of those he cares about most.

My Review can be found at

Interview with Vanessa Morgan, author

  1. What made you decide to write a screen play?
In 2010, my short story The Strangers Outside was brought to the screen. The main actor in that film, Pierre Lekeux, is also a producer. He loved what I had done with The Strangers Outside and he asked if I'd agree to write their next feature film. He wanted to jump onto the wagon of the current vampire-craze and he thought that I was the ideal person to bring this project to life. The result is A Good Man that I could best describe as American Psycho with a vampire.
  2. Are there actually plans to produce a tv series or movie from this?
A Good Man is currently in pre-production and will be shot later this year. Most of the cast and crew is already attached to the movie and the production is now arranging camera and other equipment.
  3. I can see this as a tv series more than a movie just because I would expect a movie script to be much more detailed. Which did you envision when writing it?
It's just the contrary. Because a TV series is longer, it takes more pages to write than a movie screenplay. There's no difference in the details that need to be added. A Good Man is pretty much like all other screenplays in terms of description and length. Because one page equals one minute in a movie, the adaptation of A Good Man should be more or less 96 minutes in length.
  4. I actually am having a hard time understanding why Louis decides to fake his death by giving up blood other than to provide closure to Emma and Vincent. Was that his only motivating factor?
Louis never even thinks about faking his death. That would be a bit weird indeed. What happens is that the police is suspicious of him and his vampire support group urges him to leave the country as soon as possible in order not to bring the other vampires in danger. Louis answers that it isn't exactly the right time to leave the country because there are people he cares about (Vincent and Emma) and he can't leave them without saying goodbye properly. The vampire support group accepts that Louis takes his time to say goodbye to Vincent and Emma first, but in the meantime, he isn't allowed to kill any people because that would make the police even more suspicious. The problem with vampires is that their bodies degrade quickly if they're not drinking any blood. If this goes on for too long, this will end in a state in which the vampire will still be conscious, but unable to move his limbs. As Louis finds himself unable to leave the people he loves, he is getting himself into that state. He's not faking it. And he doesn't want to be ill and disabled either. He just wants to stay with his loved ones as long as can possible be.... Just like humans would. But we all know that not letting go of people can have disastrous results.
  5. Why did Louis kill the drunk guy in the bar?
Louis is a vampire which means he has to kill people from time to time in order to drink their blood. The drunk guy in the bar was an easy victim, because Louis was supposedly going to drive him home and he was too drunk to defend himself. The drunk guy also seemed like a 'lost case' which are the only people Louis kills.
  6. Why does Louis throw up after he drinks blood? How does that actually help him live when he needs the blood to survive?
Throwing up is a normal reaction when someone is confronted with a traumatizing situation such as rape or murder. Even though Louis is a vampire, he feels bad about killing people. He wants to be a good man after all. He doesn't want to be a monster. It's explained in the story that he is never able to throw up the blood. The desire to throw up is an instant reaction, but because he never throws up any blood it won't hinder him in his survival.
  7. Are there any plans for a full novel connected with this play?
A Good Man was always meant to be a movie and it'll probably stay that way. The screenplay is available on Kindle and all other digital formats though, so readers can already check it out.

Cutter's Gulch is typical of small towns in the way everyone knows when you switch toothpaste or toilet paper brands, and won't hesitate to ask you why. And modern technology only makes it easier for people to dig into your life, whether you want them there or not. For sure, they know a whole lot more about me than I'm comfortable with. But they don't know everything.

Tell us about your life.
I have a daughter, Sabrina. She's my whole world. She'll be seven in a few months. She's out there. Somewhere. I intend to find her. This year, we'll celebrate her birthday together.

Tell us about your friends:
A lot of my friends drifted away after Sabrina went missing. New mom's want to protect their children and themselves from the world's nasty secrets. Every time they see me, fear rips through them. The same thing could happen to their perfect families. Avoid me, avoid reality. I don't blame them. The rest of my friends divided ranks after Pete and I divorced. Carrie's been my best friend since high school, the one I can always count on. We tell each other everything. Which is why it's so difficult keeping my new secret from her.

What is your role in the book?
Some might say the book is about my search for my daughter, but it's more than that. Sabrina's courage and strength shine like a beacon, leading the rest of us to her. She stars in the leading role in Mind Over Matter.

Do you consider yourself to be a Good Guy or Bad Guy or Neither?
Well, I have a strong set of morals, but I'll do whatever it takes to get my baby girl back. If I have to break a few laws to do it, so be it.

Do you enjoy the position you’ve been given or would you prefer someone else's?
How could any mother prefer a different role? Unless of course, it's one where she skips the tragedy and gets to the happy ending. I wouldn't give up being Sabrina's mom for anything.

What is your role or objective in the story?
To get Sabrina back, by whatever means necessary, and to take down the person who stole her from me.

Do you think you can attain your objective?
Yes. I'll find her. Sabrina is sending me clues. The question you need to ask is will I find her in time?

Will you have to change anything about yourself in order to attain your objective?
If I could make my psychic visions come on demand instead of being held at the mercy of their whim, I would change that about me. But that's out of my hands. I suppose I've grown at lot as a person through this experience. I've certainly hit bottom, and I've made the climb back up. Have I changed? I'm not the doormat I once was. We'll see if I can avoid the mistakes I made in the past. That will be the real test. I'm not waiting for my knight in shining armour, either. I'm not above asking for help, not if it means finding Sabrina sooner. But I'm following my own set of rules this time.

What obstacles are in the way of your achieving the objective for your story?
Dan Cooper, the FBI agent heading up the original investigation is hiding a secret of his own, one I fear is working at cross purposes to my goal. And then there's the person who abducted Sabrina. He's an entirely different breed of monster.

How do you think you might overcome those obstacles?
Since Sabrina disappeared, I've used alcohol to numb the pain. But now I know she's coming home, and I need to be a mother worth returning to. I've given up all my crutches. Well, almost all. There's this damn attraction between Dan Cooper and I, and no matter how hard we fight it, we keep ending up in each other's arms.

Have you ever been in trouble with the law?
Not until I started this story.

Do you believe in an afterlife? Reincarnation? Good vs Evil? Supreme Power?
I'm psychic, so I believe there's more to life than most people experience each day. I live next to a mountain that strengthens my abilities each time I step foot on it. But my abilities abandoned me the day Sabrina disappeared, and have only just returned. I'm not sure I can trust them.

Wordy Wednesday: Fearless

Fearless Picture
Title: Fearless
Series: King Series
Author: Tawdra Kandle
Publisher: Amazon; 1 edition (December 9, 2011)
Format: ARC [eBook]

Description: Tasmyn Vaughn didn't expect much when her dad’s job moved them to a small town in Florida; it was just another new school. But there is more to King than meets the eye, and soon Tasmyn’s ability to hear other’s thoughts is the least of her worries. Entangled in a web of first love, quirky and secretive townsfolk, magic and blood rituals, she discovers the town’s secrets aren’t just bizarre, they’re deadly.

Review:I will tell you that I struggled at first to get into the book, but that is not because of the story. It was a HUGE shift from the book I read before it. That being said, it was a wonderful story. Tasmyn is the main character, a junior in high school. She's been moved around a lot due to her father's job (no she's not a military brat) and she has struggled to have anything that resembled a friendship due to both her gift and moving around. She has learned to tune out the thoughts of others. What I mean by that is that she hears people's thoughts as if they are talking to her. This means that like someone who really is talking to her, she has to concentrate not to hear those thoughts. What this means is that she appears aloof and uncaring of what others are actually saying to her because she is actually focusing on their spoken words instead of thoughts. It's a catch 22. People think she isn't listening to what they say because she has to concentrate so much on exactly what they are saying. It results in very little friendships until she moves to King, Florida. This town is full of old mysterious history which actually is a good thing for Tasmyn. She fits in without even knowing that she does.

One of the aspects of the story that I really liked was that Tasmyn falls in love for the first time with Michael. Michael has a family history of the male line falling in love with a girl and never falling out. They love only one and really don't pay attention to girls until they meet that one. Love at first sight is their curse/blessing depending on how you want to see it. Luckily Tasmyn falls in love right back. Like teenagers, they move fast and admit their feelings very quickly. However, unlike most teenagers, they do not consummate their love. I really liked how Tawdra Kandle (author) hints at what they could be doing, but then makes a point that they actually are not doing it. Both Michael and Tasmyn avoid situations where they could get themselves in trouble and both respect each other enough to not jump into a physical relationship too quickly. Now-a-days teenagers get physically involved very early (I was one of them) and it can have devastating results. I feel like this story gave a really good positive example for how a loving teenage relationship can be without that physical intimacy. I applaud Tawdra's ability to write a paranorml romance without the steamy scenes since her story is one a teenager is likely to want to read.

So if you are interested in reading a light paranormal romance, this is definitely a good book for you. I say light paranormal just because there aren't any vampires, werewolves, or other shape shifters. That's not to say that there won't be further along in the King Series, but this book does not contain them. It is strictly an empath and witchcraft. This is definitely a great book for your teenagers if they are into the paranormal.

Interview with Tawdra:
  1. Where did your inspiration for “Fearless” come from? Like most books, I think, inspiration came from many bits and pieces. Tasmyn's lifelong ability to hear minds came at least partly from a rueful joke between my sister and me, about how it seemed our babies could 'hear' us think about them in the middle of the night and thus wake up. That prompted me to wonder what that would look like: raising a child with this unique a gift would definitely be a challenge. Tasmyn's family history of moving all the time is reminiscent of my own childhood. And when I was in school, I certainly knew my share of unpleasant girls, though none whom were witches. . as far as I know!
  2. Why did you call it “Fearless” when it seemed like most of the characters were pretty scared most of the book? I mean that even in the simplest form of Tasmyn and Michael falling out of love. I had already written most of the book without a title (earliest drafts were just called "Tasmyn") when Taylor Swift's album Fearless was released. I heard the title track, and it reminded me of Tas and Michael. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that the series as a whole is about Tasmyn's movement away from her fear-driven life toward freedom. The first book chronicles just her opening, baby steps in this direction, so yes, there is still a lot of fear. . .although Tas choosing to trust Michael and accept him, his family and friends into her world is a huge leap for her. As for Michael and Tas being afraid of falling out of love, what Tasmyn worries about is Michael changing his mind, and that is something that will be explored in the third book.
  3. Do you believe in love at first sight or destiny? What about witchcraft and other supernaturals? I do think that love at first sight happens. I don't know that I believe in destiny so much as I think there is a plan in our lives. I also absolutely believe that some people possess what we might call supernatural gifts; we know we're only using a tiny portion of our brains, and who knows what abilities lie there? I think witchcraft probably goes on, even in our modern world, but I wonder how much of it is simply a connection with nature and how much is a true quest for power. I'm not a witch, but without doubt there is more under the sun that is dreamed of in our little worlds!
  4. Is Tasmyn really an anomaly or does she have someone else in her family tree with special abilities? That is something that will be explored a little more in Breathless. She is not related to a King first family, as far as I know.
  5. My parents met in high school and were married before my mom graduated. I used to believe that I was meant to be the same way and tried to make a relationship work way past its expiration. What made you decide that Michael’s family would be blessed to fall in love once and it be for real? This was something that began as a small plot point and then developed more than I expected. I needed to move the relationship between Tas and Michael to a fairly intense place pretty quickly. A lot has to happen in Fearless, and if I had allowed their love to develop more 'naturally', the book would have been even longer than it is. I actually considered dropping this family trait idea during some late edits, but I realized this family expectation was an integral part of Michael's character. Interestingly, it's one of the things readers comment about frequently. I think people love the idea of a soul mate. Also, one of the themes of the King series is that gifts come in many different forms. This little quirk in Michael's family might not be as startling as what Tasmyn can do, but in its own way, it's still a supernatural gift.
  6. I loved that you did not include “real” physical intimacy in the story. Too many girls give in too early (I was one) and I feel like your story encourages teenagers not to jump the gun. What made you decide not to include it? Well, it would have been very out of character for Tasmyn to jump into anything like that, no matter how intense her feelings for Michael. I also believe that a physical relationship should not outpace the emotional intimacy between two people, and that's reflected in these books. Michael will address that more fully in the fourth book!
  7. Will Tasmyn and Michael get married? I rather expected him to propose and was surprised when he didn’t. No proposal! There will be talk about a future marriage; Michael clearly wants Tasmyn to know that he plans to be with her forever. But no weddings in this series. . .although there will be something at the very end of the fourth book that I think will answer any questions about their distant future. Unlike--ahem!--some other series, there is no pressing imperative for these two to jump the gun and get married before they're ready.
  8. Where did you get the name Tasmyn? I am an unusual name junkie and I really like that name a lot. I might be tempted to use it one day if I ever have a girl. ;) I began the story with her name as Tamsyn, but it just wasn't ringing. I switched the letters and liked it better, and then later, when I learned the meaning of the name, I realized how perfect it actually is for this character and this story! I like it, too. If you ever do you use it , be sure and let me know!
  9. I realize that the next book “Breathless” will be out soonish, care to give a brief idea of what we should expect? Sure! Breathless picks up at the beginning of Tasmyn's senior year, so almost a year has passed. Michael goes away to college, which is very hard on her. We'll get better acquainted with Ms. Lacusta. . .Cara's dad becomes suspicious about Tasmyn's abilities. . and there is an interesting new character whose view on supernatural powers gives Tas an alternate perspective. How Breathless ends sets up the third book, which, I must say, might be my favorite one. Stay tuned and keep reading!
